Abstract

In the first quarter of 2010, the greater Chinese notebook PC industry saw the launch of new products somewhat affected by the shortage of some upstream components, such as DDR2 (Double Data Rate 2) and DDR3, GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), passive components, and even CPU (Central Processing Unit). Moreover, the Lunar New Year holidays in February and the labor shortage in China both delayed the shipment delivery, too. However, thanks to the growing penetration of Intel's Calpella platform and Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system, the overall market demand remained aloft. Overall, the first-quarter greater Chinese notebook PC shipment volume reached approximately 31.9 million units, growing 27.7% year-on-year.
